Check Out Project - Edit

Client/Server Mode

Purpose

Projects are stored on the server for access by all users. Use check out project to download project files and information to your local system for viewing or editing. Using Check Out Project locks the project.

When the project is checked out, all changes made to the project are not saved until the project is checked back in.

Clients must be connected to the network in order to access the server data.

Prerequisites

  • Must be operating CS Director in Client/Server mode.
  • Project must be created and exist on the server.
  • Client must be connected to the server.

Steps

To check out a project:

  1. From the main CS Director window, select Project List.
  2. Select a qualifying project from the Project List that is available for check out.
  3. Click Check Out Project.

Check Out Project for the Current Client

  1. Select whether to include attachments.
    • When checked, attachments are checked out with the project data and transferred from the server to the client.
    • When unchecked, attachments are not included with the project data and are not available if disconnected from the server.

Performance may be improved when Include Attachments is unchecked.

  2. Select the type of check out.

Check out project for edit allows the user to view information and verifies that the project is not currently being accessed by another user. The user can edit the project.

When a project is checked out for edit by you, the symbol is displayed on the project list indicating the checkout status. When a project is checked out for edit by other users, the symbol is displayed on the project list. For details, see Client Server Project Feature Summary.

When a project is checked out for edit or view, all required project data is transferred from the server to the client. This allows users to check out one or more projects for edit, and disconnect from the server if necessary.

All edits are saved locally and project information must be synchronized in order to update the server data.
