Summary

Design preferences for single-family residential construction increasingly seek open floor plans and large openings in exterior walls. This trend presents many challenges for the bracing requirements of the International Residential Code. This session evaluates those challenges and offers multiple solutions, including both site-built and prefabricated options.

Target Audience: Building Inspectors, Code Officials, Specifiers

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify design trends that are noncompliant with the wall bracing provisions in the IRC.
  • Provide multiple options to bring those designs in compliance with the code requirements.
  • Recommend the best options as judged by cost, strength, and constructability.
Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Continuing education credits will be offered for this webinar. Participants can earn 1 professional development hour (PDH), 0.1 continuing education unit (CEU) and 0.1 ICC for attending the webinar and completing the Learning Credits quiz. Contact training@strongtie.com with any questions.
