Title: New Design Methods to Enclose Buildings Faster - Webinar No 1
Date: Wednesday, October 26, 2022
Time: 11:00 AM PT | 2:00 PM ET
Duration: 1.00 Hour

This webinar has already taken place. A recording of the webinar will be available here, typically within one day.

Join us for part one of a two-part webinar series on the latest solutions for the cladding connection designs for structural steel buildings. This first webinar being held on October 26th will cover some of the biggest challenges that fabricators, engineers, and contractors in the structural steel industry face when designing façade attachments to a building structure. We will discuss new design methods and solutions such as bolted connections that do not require any field-welding to help enclose buildings quickly and reduce overall project schedules and costs.

Join Tim Ellis and Stewart Jeske who will discuss solutions for curtain-wall and cladding connections and how they can maximize efficiency and resiliency throughout the construction process.

Tim Ellis is a Business Development Manager for Simpson Strong-Tie with over 40 years of experience in the construction industry. Prior to joining Simpson Strong-Tie in 2001, Tim owned a construction company based in Malibu, CA that specialized in complex hillside construction. Tim also lived in Japan for three years, teaching North American construction methods to Japanese builders and exporting housing and seismic engineering services.

Mr. Jeske, P.E. is the owner and founder of JEI Structural Engineering, a Kansas City-based firm specializing in the structural design of building envelopes and glazing systems since 2003. As a licensed professional engineer in 43 states, Stewart holds a BS in Architectural Engineering and an MS in Civil Engineering. He has 36 years of structural engineering experience with 22 years in glazing systems design. JEI Structural specializes in the design of all types of cladding systems, including aluminum curtain walls, glass structural systems, aluminum storefronts, glass handrails, glass windscreens, glass floors, glass canopies, zoo and animal exhibit glazing, and window blast engineering. Stewart is an inventor with several patents, an author for US Glass and Glass Magazine, and a speaker for national glazing expos.

Participants in the live event will have an opportunity to ask questions.

As a result of attending this webinar, you should be able to:

  • Describe industry and market needs and drivers
  • Explain the traditional methods for designing and attaching cladding connections
  • Apply new design methods and bolted connections
  • Describe case studies and discuss the future of cladding design
Continuing education credits will be offered for this webinar. Participants can earn one professional development hour (PDH), and 0.1 continuing education unit (CEU) and 1 AIA HSW Credit for attending the first hour of the webinar and completing the Learning Credits quiz.
